At East Ivanhoe Preschool, teaching staff with appropriate Early Childhood qualifications are employed. All staff have an up to date police records check and as of July 2008, all staff will have a working with children check. Early Childhood Teacher’s possess a 3 - 4 year teaching degree. The teacher’s professional knowledge, combined with an understanding of each child’s skills and development, provide the basis for the program in which your child will participate.

All centres are staffed in accordance with the Children’s Services Act 1996 and Regulations 2009. The regulations state that whenever children are present, Kindergartens must have two staff present, one of whom must be qualified. While we will make every attempt to keep the kindergarten operational should the staff be absent and it has not been possible to gain the services of suitably qualified relief staff it will be necessary to cancel the kindergarten session. Staff will attempt to notify parents by phone and a notice will be placed on the front door of the kindergarten advising the parents of the necessity to close the kindergarten for that session.

Other Early Childhood Professionals

The kindergarten has access to many specialists in the area - visiting teacher; speech pathologist; pre-school field officer; child psychologists and so on. The teacher will contact you for discussion if your child would benefit from support from these other professionals. The Department of Education and Early Childhood Development only liases with the 4-year-old groups.

Preparation and Planning Sessions

Teachers have preparation/planning time each week. This time is used for administrative tasks, preparation of activities, programming, home visits, teachers meetings, professional development, writing individual records and observations and parent discussion interviews.
